Summer School 2018 Runs July 6 to 31 – Registration Open Now

Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD) will be hosting Summer School from July 6 to 31 at Westwood Community High School free of charge. Diploma exams will be written from August 1 to 10. Register here.

Students exiting Grade 9 (June 2018) and entering Grade 10 in 2018-2019 are eligible to register for courses, in addition to high school students in Grades 10 through 12. Only one course can be taken due to the condensed nature of summer school classes.

Brendan Toner, Vice Principal, Westwood Community High School is continuing as Summer School Principal.

“We are looking forward to another successful summer program, and are excited to be able to offer this program without restrictions to students. We feel we have the right staff and kids for the summer program, and it is a great opportunity for kids to work ahead. For this summer, we have shortened our hours of instruction by 10 hours to maximize efficiency and to be fiscally responsible. Moving ahead, July will be busy and August will be a chance to have students write or rewrite their diploma examinations.”

Daniel Baseley, Vice Principal, Walter and Gladys Hill Public School will be returning as the Summer School Vice Principal.

“We expect to be as busy as last year - if not more so. I’m very pleased that the opportunity to either upgrade, or earn new credits, is once again open to all youth from both the city’s school districts. However, prospective summer school students should be advised that these courses are condensed, not abbreviated. In other words, expect to have four months of work packed into approximately four weeks; come ready to work, and do not expect ‘easy credits.’ In addition, consistent attendance is a must,” Baseley emphasized.

Classes will run Monday through Friday beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m., with a 30 minute lunch break. Visit for more information.
