Summer Update from Ms. Shelley

Summer Update from Ms. Shelley

As the 2019-2020 school year comes to a close, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the parents and families that helped to support our students in the school year, and especially under the Learning At Home conditions during the COVID-19 circumstances.  We also want to thank our students. We know that it has been a unique circumstance and we truly do appreciate your patience, support and flexibility as we have worked to provide learning opportunities in a remote way.
Here are a few pieces of information to share with you:
  • Thank you to those students that have already returned their textbooks and borrowed technology. We will be looking to receive those last items by Friday, June 26th @ noon. They may be dropped in the grey mailbox outside of the main doors.
  • Report cards have been mailed.
We are also happy to share that we were able to celebrate our graduates through a variety of ways. We delivered lawn signs and graduation gowns home to families, we featured each graduate individually through social media, we hosted a Drive Up Graduation ceremony and also shared awards and congratulations through a virtual ceremony earlier this morning.  Here is the YouTube link to watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fR-UBaPMso
We wish our graduates all of the best in their futures.

As we move into the end of the year and plan for the 2020-2021 school year, there are still many questions to answer for our returning students and families. Here is some information about what is to come:
  • The first day for school in the 2020-2021 school year is August 31, 2020.
  • The office will reopen in the fall on August 17th.
  • We will share information after that date about the upcoming orientation days and how to access student schedules before classes begin.  Please keep your eye on our school and division website and social media for specific details.
  • The Ministry of Education will announce the direction of which scenario that all schools within Alberta will be following by August 1st, 2020.  There are 3 potential scenarios that will be in place. You may go on to the Alberta.ca website to learn more about the three scenarios, which are:
  1.     Scenario 1 - In-school classes (near normal with additional health measures)
  2.     Scenario 2 - In school classes partially resume (with additional health measures)
  3.     Exclusively at home learning
We are hoping for a near normal scenario, but we will await direction from Alberta Health Services and the Ministry of Education on how to proceed. Whatever the circumstances and needs of our community may be, we will be prepared.

We are looking forward to continuing to serve our students in the upcoming school year.
Please have a relaxing and safe summer.

Take care,
Cynthia Shelley
