Hello Westwood students and families!

My name is Mr. Baseley and I am one of three Vice Principals here at Westwood Community High School.

I was born in Tanzania, and lived in England as well as Barbados before arriving in Canada with my family when I was six. As a proud, naturalized Canadian I still remember our actual date of arrival: August 17th, 1982 - a very long time ago!  In 1999 I completed my Bachelor of Arts (History) degree at the University of Winnipeg, before spending the next 7 years abroad: in the United States and Japan. After returning to Canada, I studied at the University of Toronto, where I earned a Bachelor of Education degree in 2007. More recently, I earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alberta in 2016. Aside from my obvious interest in traveling and cultural exchange, I also love to play music on various instruments, discuss history or politics, and exercise at the gym.

I actually spent a decade teaching at Westwood before leaving to serve as Vice Principal at the following schools: Walter & Gladys Hill Elementary, Fort McMurray Christian School, and École McTavish Public High School.  I also served as Summer School Principal.  After six years away I am excited to rejoin the Trojan legions.  Should you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me either via email or phone. I look forward to meeting you, and I'm sure that 2023-2024 is going to be great!

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
