Casino Volunteers Needed

Casino Fundraiser for Westwood Community High School

Westwood is scheduled to have a casino on December 11 & 12 , 2023.

In order to fill our quota of workers, it is necessary that parents/guardians of students who take part in the activities supported by casino funds be responsible to volunteer to work a shift of the assigned casino.  Parents/guardians of students who benefit from the funds will be required to work for each team as these teams access a larger portion of the funding. If a parent representative from the groups that have been supported by the Casino funds in the past have not stepped up to work the casino, the funds will no longer be able to support that group.  A portion of the funds are also used for purchases that benefit the entire school population.

Through the volunteer efforts of parents and staff (& students if over 18), the potential to raise @ $35,000 (or more) by working casinos through the School Council exists. These funds have been used to pay for a major portion of the costs associated with extra-curricular and co-curricular travel activities which include, but are not exclusive to, sports teams, art, drama, and other school programs. Transportation from Fort McMurray to attend tournaments, art galleries, ballet performances, etc. is very expensive but these trips do offer student opportunities that are not available locally.

Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
